From 26th November we will be displaying a message in schools’ old “Individual” apps, guiding users to install the new SkoolBag App.
No action is required from your school.
Why is this happening?
Recently we launched the new SkoolBag app, giving schools access to exciting new features like Posting Photo Updates from the app.
Whilst we know that many schools have notified their parents about downloading the new SkoolBag app (we reached #1 in the app store!), there are still some users who are still using their school’s old “Individual” app (those with a seperate app listing in the app store).
“Individual” apps do not have the updated look-and-feel and new functionality of the SkoolBag App.
As you’ll be aware from our previous communications, in late 2017 Apple made an update to their app store guidelines to prevent companies like SkoolBag from publishing thousands of apps, requesting us to rather create a single SkoolBag app.
Apple have since been removing “Individual” school apps from the app store every month.
To ensure your school’s app users have the best experience in the new SkoolBag App, we will shortly begin guiding any users who are still using your old app, to install the new SkoolBag App before the end of Term 4.
This means that your school will kick-off 2019 with everyone using the most up-to-date version of SkoolBag, with the following new features:
- A Single Feed of my school updates
- Add a custom school header image
- Ability to add multiple schools
- Archive notifications
- Improved navigation and modern look
- Improved Unified Calendar View
- Richer Image Previews
- Updated look & feel
- SkoolBag Discover Content
- Payments with Apple and Google Pay (coming soon)
- And more
From w/c 26th November, users who have not yet installed the new SkoolBag App, will be guided by the following message which will pop up in ‘Individual’ school apps:
From w/c 14th December, users will no longer have the option to skip this message.
As long as your app download instructions are up-to-date, your school does not need to do anything in relation to this message.
We have included these instructions, and a host of new resources in new our end-of-term checklist.
After this period Apple and/or SkoolBag may remove your old app from the App Store to avoid confusing your community.
